The Menlo Park Fire Protection District (MPFPD) was officially formed in 1916 and serves approximately 95,000 residents, specifically in the Town of Atherton, City of East Palo Alto, City of Menlo Park, and portions of unincorporated San Mateo County. The MPFPD’s jurisdiction covers a total of 29 square miles and is covered by seven fire stations.
MPFPD serves as the lead agency for California Task Force 3, one of the 28 FEMA Urban Search & Rescue teams nationwide. In 1989, MPFPD assumed responsibility of providing water rescue services for people using the baylands and water ways bordering MPFPD. In 1991, MPFPD and the City of Palo Alto’s Fire Department entered into a joint powers agreement to form the South Bay Water Rescue Team, which remains in place today. |
